Wednesday I driving from SoCal to Puget Sound for a new Boeing job. I was doing 770 miles that day to make it to Grants Pass, Oregon. First rest stop about 200+ miles into it to get a Starbucks and Fuel just cause I stopped. (took off about 4:30am to get out of the LA Basin) I wash the windows real good like I always do, get in, turn the key, dash lights come on as always....but nothing. No starter motor turning, no click click click. Just nothing. So I start making sure the car is locked, gas cap on right, anything I can think of...nothing helps. Open the hood, check out the Battery connections, all good. Still nothing, so I open up the fuse box, look it over. I yank out the 10A ECM fuse....looks fine, put it back...give it another try and it fires right up.
That was several days ago and its been fine ever since. Car just turned over 30K on this trip.
Any ideas? Did water drip down from the windshield cleaning and temp f something up?
This is probably better off in the C5 Tech section, at least more experienced members will see it.
I can't see how washing the windows would have done anything you described. How long did you long did you leave the fuse out and how long before you tried to start it the 2nd time?
My car had random no starts for awhile. The symptom you are describing sounds like a possible BCM problem. On mine, it was the starter because the fuse trick didn't work. Mine did exactly what you are describing though. I'd turn the key and absolutely nothing would happen. Almost like I was trying to start it without the clutch on the floor.
I only mention the washing cause I know the "box" is low under the battery, the squeegee was pretty dripping and I know water did flow down there a bit.
Maybe you were weak from getting up so early and didn't have the clutch all the way in.
Funny Guy. I work in Aerospace, I get up early every working day. And it has worked fine ever since.
Good link...I'll pull codes. Sadly all my jacks and stands are down in SoCal, no way to lift here unless I get it to a shop. Interesting about the starter cables....
