A friend is jumping into the Corvette world. A dealer (over the phone) told him a new 2002 Mill. Yellow Z06 was in transit and it could be his for $48K. Something wrong here. Don't they start at $50K?
Being yellow ... an extra cost option for that price ... sounds like a great deal. A QS in Albuquerque is stickered at 58,000 ... automatic $5k markup, and they wonder why they can't get more allocations. :smash: :smash: :smash:
The prices certainly seem to be coming down across the country. There are three new Z06s advertised in today's Washington Post for $3k off list; $5k off MSRP for coupes. (I don't think I can mention the dealers' names here because they aren't Forum vendors.) But $3k seems to be the "normal" discount. Depending on the options on the car you want, there's still another $3-5k between the dealer's cost and retail, so it comes down to how good a negotiator your are. Whether this will continue into the 50th anniversary year is anyone's guess.
Found a great dealer in a small town who had the allocation and wanted to push them out the door. I paid $150 LESS than INVOICE. :D I can live with that.
Prices in the $45-46K range are achievable despite what some dealers say. You just have to shop around and sometimes be willing to travel. It wouldn't hurt to check with Forum vendors.
Mine had an MSRP of $51,520 and I got it for $48,520 + 3.9% for 60 months from GMAC one week ago from a local dealer. Another dealer 15 miles away told me on the phone that they were marking theirs up $2,000 but that they could come close to MSRP if I came in. At least they were honest and saved me a trip by telling me to buy it elsewhere if I could get it discounted below MSRP. Bottom line, shop around, good deals can be had with the right dealer. My car had 2 miles on odo before test drive so it hadn't even been test driven by anyone else...
Like others here, I had trouble finding a dealer willing to negotiate very much on the Millineum Yellow. I finally found a dealer about 200 miles
away that gave me $2800 plus the 3.9% financing 2 weeks ago. Deals can be found if you look for them. Just keep looking.....
Docman, If your friend can live with a coupe, a large DC dealer advertised a new one yesterday in the Wash. Post for $39,888, a 6-speed. Several others under $43k. Of course, $39,888 may get you a pink one with the dealership name plastered on the hood, but still, that's cheap for a new Corvette.
I just got QS off the showroom floor below invoice, no adendum sticker (sp) mark up, and even got $1,000 over trade-in for my 01 coupe. I was "just looking" but could not pass that deal up!
It was my "servicing" dealership and they get the money back eventually through the service department
