I worked in a GM dealer when the C3 Pace Car came out. Dealers were selling them for over list price. Few years later they weren't worth more than any other C3. Never got too excited about decal packages after that. Way over the top appearance for something I'd want to actually drive. But to each their own.
Lots of recent threads on what to look for in a C5.
I'm looking at a Pace Car for sale with under 47k the Dealer is asking just under 20k for it. The car looks good I'm going to "kick" the tires Monday.
What do you guys think? What issues should I look for etc?
Thanks in advance.
Nothing different about the PC and other '98's other than the paint/decals and a few interior items. This is good - no unique one-off engine parts to hunt for if you need a replacement! Price seems good. Make a note of any codes while you're there. Good luck!

Who would spec out a vette in purple with yellow wheels if it wasn't a pace car????

When I was looking for my c5 (about 5-8 months ago) there was a pace car for sale here in the Dallas area. I think it had been on the market for something like 6 months, and was listed for below KBB. I think 16 or 17K. Good condition, less than 100K miles.
I don't think they're worth any more than a regular c5. I know it might offend some of the owners but its not a desirable color combination IMO.... they look good with normal wheels though.
Bottom line, don't pay any more for it than you would a non-pace car IMO.

I know it would be so much better to blend in with the countless Red, and Silver Corvettes out there.
If my math is right the pace car in Denver has about twice the amount of miles then the one I'm looking at plus the car in Conifer is 2,100 miles from me.

Good luck with the car - I have some files that might help you out in your search - including a Corvette Buyers Checklist. If you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.

I have no issue with anyone not liking the looks of the '98 PC. However, the OP was looking for an opinion on the purchase of the car - not on the looks of it. Posting & calling it ugly was misplaced IMHO.

Consider it an attempt to keep him grounded and not get all starry-eyed over one of the ugliest, overproduced vettes to roll out of bowling green.
Production numbers for the 78 PC I mentioned was 6,502. One for each dealer. 1,158 replicas of the 98 were built. Ugly or not, it was a $5039.00 option. Was that on top of the Vert option I wonder?
I got to tell the story of the dealer where I worked in 78 and the Corvettes. It will have to wait till I have more time to type.
