Default Out with the old...

So last year I put the MGW short shifter and had a C6 shift **** wrapped to match the interior of my AE Vert. I then proceeded to use the zip tie method to reuse my old C5 shift boot.
Here's the zip tie:

Of course broken shift boot ring:

Not too horrible results, other than too much material and no real finished look on top. Also, every so often the shift boot ring would pop out.

So I picked up a metal shift boot ring from ebay - you can snap that puppy in and out with no fear of breaking it. I then ordered a shift boot from VetteEssentials. They did a C6 top and a C5 bottom when they made the boot. This way it gives the top a finished look and fits the C5 shift boot ring.

Here is the boot mounted on the ring:

And finally 1 minute or so later

Yeah, the C6 shift **** also feels better in my hand than the original. The huge difference though is the short shifter.

looks great.

Does anyone know where one would go for a C6 ****/boot setup where there's an aluminum(?) trim ring maybe half to 3/4" in size between the **** and boot itself? I've seen a few like that and think it looks really sharp.

Hope that makes sense

VetteEssentials can probably do that for you. They do all sorts of custom work.

It is amazing how many here badmouth the stock shifter. Then spend the rest of their ownership going through one bad aftermarket shifter after another.

Meanwhile, the best drag racer on the forum uses the stock shifter!

I say, "learn how to shift!"

I won't badmouth it. The shifts were smooth but I wanted a shifter with a smaller throw from gear to gear. I swapped out the shift **** because the C6 **** felt better in my hands and personally I think the C6 shift **** is nicer looking. In my case it has worked out very nicely. I've read where others have swapped it out but I'm planning on keeping mine.
Either way everyone has got to do what makes them happy.
