I'm looking on ebay at the 9500ix radar detector. Is there a difference in the blue light and red light detectors, besides the light color? Is there something comperable for less money?
Lights are just that... what do you think looks better?
Now, there is nothing out there with the SAME capabilities for LESS. You get what you pay for with these things and many independent sources have proven that sensors get better as price goes up (generally). That being said, the 9500ix's biggest competitor (windshield mounted, single unit etc...) would be the Valentine 1. Everyone has their personal preference, but read this review to decide for yourself.
Happy hunting! Personally I use the 9500ix and lets just say it's payed for itself at least once (or twice)

There was an article I read about interior lighting a couple of years ago. The "study" found that red lights are not recommended and many auto manufacturers are beginning to shy away from red lights because the human eye becomes accustomed to it and then red lights or other type of warnings get lost in the mix.
Not sure how true that is, however the article also pointed out that red or other "hot" colors cause more eye strain than cooler colors like blue and green.
Like I said, I'm not sure if any of this is true, just something to consider.
I have both (red and blue readout) - no difference in functionality. I personally like the blue readout better - closer match to the other interior readouts.
I have the 9500ix now. I used several others, Bel,Valentine,RMR. It is by far the best one I have owned. The Bel was great also and the Valentine was impressive. The RMR was a piece of crap. I have the 9500ix hard wired in the Vette and window mount in the truck. Mount it high for best reception and detection. You will be happy with the 9500ix
I prefer the blue so I got the blue. Only difference is the blue costs more to manufacture. Red is better for night vision. However, if your headlights are on and your interior lights are on and the cars you meet have their headlights on you have no night vision anyway.
In other words, saying red is better due to improved night vision is absolute nonsense unless you are are parked in the middle of nowhere with all other lights off and cover your eyes completely at the approach of any lighted vehicle.
In other words ... pick the color you like and are willing to pay for because there is no other difference between the two.
P.S. Best radar detector on the market from a utility standpoint ... bar none.
