Default Running hot

My 2000 6 speed temperature exceded the normal range of 192 degrees. In fact, it approached up to 200 at one point.
I plan on checking the coolant level once it cools down.
Also, i will check the fans to make sure they are operating properly. Car is a low mileage car at about 30,000 miles.
What else can be checked easily?

Thanks,

200 is not hot for the c5. Mine runs around
210-220 on a hot day.

One thing I would suggest is removing the radiator shroud and cleaning all of the debris out. You'll find a ton of stuff up there.

Normal -- If I'm not running my AC and I come to a stop on a hot day it'll go to 220! Relax.

I agree about the normal temperatures for the LS1, etc., however even after owning this car for 8 years, it still amazes me how hot to the touch the engine is after a drive. I was working on some engine bling this weekend and even after a quick drive around the neighborhood, components were hot to the touch!

Thanks for the input. I was under the impression that the operating temp was supposed to stay at 192 degrees.

The C5 is a "bottom breather" that does not have constant fan flow moving air through the radiator. The fans are electronic and don't get serious until 227* and 235*.

Running the AC will provide you with low-speed fan operation (below 30mph) but you are not only cooling the radiator, but also the condenser for the AC system.

Read the gauge, see where the HOT mark is and drive accordingly. All that said, I too like to see temps in the low 190's but sometimes it just doesn't happen.

In stop and go traffic, I move the DIC to display coolant temp. That way I have notification on the DIC, the gauge and the HUD.

Be sure to clean between the radiator and condenser. Lots of trash gets in there, especially toward the top. Everything must be clean to work properly.

Good Luck

Mine in bumper to bumper hits 230/235 then fan kicks in. Turn the AC on and the fan will kick in sooner

Reeves....stay away form the dealer, far...far away. When your Vette has a cooling problem, this Forum will show you how to get those temps down and by yourself and not by the dealership.

Your C-5 temp is running at normal temps imo. Good idea to check & clean-out the area. I installed a screen to prevent junk from being sucked up. You can make the screen yourself or purchase one from a forum vendor like Mid-America, kinda pricy w/shipping charges.

Fan controller- saccitycorvette.com

I think about $100

I like mine.

Don't pry up the existing fan relay with a metal screwdriver. It is hot 12 volts.

I cruise on the highway, at 210-215. See 230 when its hot out, and driving through town. Like was previous stated, ...the first fan doesnt even kick on till 226 degrees.

You don't need a fan controller or anything else. Your car is running as it was designed. The high fan doesn't even kick on till 226. Wait till something's broke before you fix it.
