Default Sold the Z06

Well, it came time for me to move on and so I did. I am not brand loyal like some people so I decided to treat myself to a car I have wanted to own for a very long time.

The E60 BMW M5 with a 507HP V10.

It is a world of difference, this high strung beast is absolutely insane! With a red line of 8250RPMs it absolutely screams!

I enjoyed the ownership of my Z06, maintenance free for 5 years! Oil and tire changes were all she ever asked for. Loved that car! I'll miss it.

Well guys, I wont be around as much, but thanks for the good times, the good threads and all the waves!!

Enjoy! I was considering an E60 M5, but it just didn't have the raw beastly acceleration compared to the Z I was looking at.

Best of luck with the M5 - hope it turns out to be as trouble free as your Vette was.

Was this Z stock? Mine was basically stock, 360 to the wheels, and in comparison the M5 "feels" a bit faster. Regardless, I am smitten with the beast. There are alot of very cool features that I enjoy.

The car is fully warrantied, it has 46K on the clock now and the coverage is 6 years or 125K. I will never make the mileage and will sell the car with a full coverage warranty when there is a year left.

So far so bad. Thank GOD for the warranty! Car has been in the shop a total of 16 days when I pick it up tomorrow. Mostly due to BMW service advisors not communicating efficiently nor effectively with each other regarding my case. The warranty company (CNA) has been pretty on point. They have approved everything BMW has recommended.

That being said, I took the car in for a busted power steering pump after 4 weeks of owning it. Apparently there was a casting defect int he shaft and it snapped under load. Said load shall not be divulged.

The car was also intermittently downshifting roughly. This is an SMG hydraulic transmission, paddle shifters etc. They found the SMG pump had failed, as had the clutch position sensor.

Both were replaced and when they took the car for a test run after and ran a post drive diagnostic they found that the clutch position sensor was reporting the clutch to be overly worn. The transmission was removed (7 book hours) and the clutch disc and throwout bearing were found to be toast.

There was some haggling done on price between the warranty co and BMW, but in the end, everything has been completely covered by the warranty co.

It turns out that the bad clutch position sensor caused serious wear on the clutch. Interesting how these things work.

I will dfinitely take it out and get some shots soon. It is sapphire black metallic, sort of a slate black with alot of flake in the paint. The paintwork BTW is AMAZING!

SO far I have found m5board.com to be a great forum, very informative helpful and everyone so far has been very mature and kind, just like here! I post as PRKELLY if you want to read the saga of the 16 day repair!

Take care all, look for my for sale post!!!!

It is a symbol that looks like a cog wheel. Orange means problems, red means BIG problems!

I get the car back today at lunch time!

I doubt brand loyalty is what keeps people in these cars.

Hmmm...would have to strongly disagree with this one...
I am truly not brand loyal owning a Vette and a Mustang...
Ive also owned all of the major Japanese brand bikes (except Kawasaki)
Ive come across many guys who are truly "brand loyal" and always seem to have to justify exactly why they are.....

Well, what in your opinion does? I loved my Z, it was brutal. My M5!is more of a scalpel compared to the sledgehammer the Z was.
