Default upgrade, need some advice for torque converter

i'll upgrade from 2.73 gear to 3.15 gear
I know most of you will told me to go directly to 3.42, but i got a nice deal on a 3.15 3rib and i do a lot of road

i made 11.7 @ 120mpg with a tune, corsa, 100 wet shot, K&N and nitto drag radial.

its a 2004, automatic.

i will put the 3.15 gear but i want to add a stall..

what kind of stall do you suggest..
i want something with a lockup, better than my stock one cuz i can only start at 1300rpm at the drag..

i dont want something radical, but a better stall..

i want something for the street and sometimes at the drag..

suggestions ?

YANK 2800-3200 Stall

It all comes down to the stater size - YANK 3200 is what I run and couldn't be happier!

Thanks,Matt

Don't know where in Canada you are, but give Manny a call - Dasilva Motorsports..... 416-389-6142. He can ship it to you ......he likes Yanks, but I have a 2800 Vig in mine btw..........

I have a 3200 Vig and I have no complaints. Works as expected and the wife doesn't notice any difference when she drives the car granny style.

i have a circle D 2800-3000 stall. i would highly recomend going to 3.42 rear. i only lost about 3mpg going from 3.15 to 3.42 with stall. also depending on the stall you go with you need to consider adding an external transmission cooler.

here's a "one notch better" converter that doesn't require an added cooler:

I've had both yank ss3600 and ss4000 vig3600 triple disk. They all lock up on the highway. So MPG isn't effected. They ss4000 was the most fun. 2nd was the vig3600. Go big and don't worry. You'll love it

The Mike Mercury converter is a great idea for a lot of applications....I even saved that post to my favs, and was going to go that route along with a 3.15 from my 2 .73 and a few other "sleeper" mods, it's inexpensive and effective. but as it turned out I ended up with the whole heads/cam etc route and went with a Vig 2800 that I picked up used here on the forum. Kudos to Mike though, with yet another good idea. Something to seriously consider!
I've been running it for 3 seasons now and well over 200 passes at the track with no issues, but did bust my built 3.42 built up 3 rib. I plan on getting it re-stalled to 3200 and tightened up a bit at the end of this season.

I still think with your 3.15 ratio and a 2800 stall of your choice will be the best combo for sure -

And no matter what converter you go with the best thing you can do "IS" install a tranny cooler _

That will save your transmission regardless! Simple money spent on basically cheap insurance = Tranny cooler

Thanks,Matt

Here is the Tranny Cooler I use - the size and flow is extremely efficient, all has to do with the size:
http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/4739-1.html

I can't post pics right now but it is fairly easy and straight forward! Mount it where air can flow through (front of Vette and minimally in front of AC condenser)

Thanks,Matt
