Out of 4025 99 FRC's 11% (435) came with dual zone hvac, mine is one of them. In 2000, 67% of the Frc cars came with dual zone (1403 out of 2090 produced). Of course as has already been said, no 01 Z06 had HUD from the factory although some may have been "cloned into them" .

He also said real Z06 Corvettes didn't have the "405HP" badge and that the Z06 badge only said "Z06". LOL

I, of course, told him that since I've owned the car for 6 months that I was quite sure I knew what I had. I then proceeded to tell him that NO Corvettes came with HRE wheels and that those were purchased separately and that the screens in the fender vents were aftermarket and I didn't like them so I didn't install them. I then told him that the easiest way to see if it was real was the RPO code that says MN12. Only Z06's came with the MN12 transmission.

He then, again, tried to convince me that I'd purchased a clone and that the original owner replaced my RPO code sticker with a Z06 sticker and that there was no way my Z06 was real.

After I asked him how he was so sure, he said "I used to sell cars."

I looked blankly at him for a few moments waiting for a real credential to his expertise to come out of his flapping mouth, but that was it. He used to sell cars. That's what makes him the world expert on Corvettes.

I finally said to him, "All FRCs made for the 2001+ year models are Z06s. This car is a 2002 and therefore can ONLY be Z06. The build date is on the door if you don't believe me."

His reply made me get in my car and move it away from him:
"This was once a coupe. Someone converted this car to a FRC."
i love it when this type of "expert" comes up to me at a show or parking lot with my "converted" Z06 and wants to point out to me all the reasons why it can't be a true Z06

Default Question

What if I took my stock 2001 C5 convertible and replaced all the parts needing replacing with everything which came on the Z06 in 2001. Would I then be in the right to have a Z06 badge put on it?

Not that I would, but I am in the process of putting on performance bolt-ons that will put me ahead in power compared to the stock Z06's in 2001.

Still would not be a Z06 and would imply that it is. But it is just a badge, I would be more inclined to go for the pricey but cool custom badges that more accurately reflect your mods.

Yeah, it's only happened to me a couple times, but this guy was the worst.

Lots of people have asked me if either of my Z06s were clones. I usually answer something like this:

"I'm really a fan of the body style, and I'd really like a non-Z06 FRC as well. I'd never try to make a car look like another car. I bought what I bought and I can appreciate how rear a non-Z06 FRC really is."

I had guy tell me Z06 came out in 1998.

He also had 94 LS1 engine in his beater.

Best way is look at the year of the car. 99-00 frc 01-04 z06. But I could tell from just looking at the car. Unless they changed everthing.

Seems more appropriate. I agree.
