Re: C1288H Service Active Handling (Power Shifter)
Is anyone else still getting the C1288 Service Active Handling code? My car has 2,000 miles and I still get it sometimes as an intermittent code. The dealer told me that the next time I bring the car in I should drive it to the shop with the Service Active Handling messages blinking as a current code.
The code first started appearing when the car was one month old with about 500 miles on it. The code never sets during short trips, but from what I can remember, every single long trip I have taken since the car was 1 month old has resulted in the code being set.
This Saturday I drove the car to my brother's house 50 miles away. I did not get the code on the way there, but I got it about 25 miles into the return trip. On Sunday the wife and I took an afternoon drive. The code appeared after about 30 miles on the road. On Monday night we took a quick trip down the shore. No codes on the 20 mile trip down, but I got it on the trip back.
I was fed up with this crap so I decided to take today off, drive the car until I get a code, and then go right to the dealer with the codes still current. I woke up early and got the car on the road by 6:00. By 4:00 PM I logged about 350 miles, went through a full tank of gas, and got no code. wth?? :mad I drove on all the same roads where I normally get the codes and I made sure that I drove in the same manner I normally do.
This is really starting to **** me off. I guarantee the next time I just take a weekend cruise (when the dealer is closed) the code will pop up multiple times.
I get false AH handling codes every now and then as well. I also find them an annoyance , but I dread a trip to the dealer more. I just clear the code and go down the road (realizing of course that codes can only be cleared at park). I probably don't share your same level of frustration. My trigger for the code usually is in stop and go traffic, bumper to bumper stuff if you will.

I can bring up the codes while driving with the options-fuel4x button combo. This is the only time I see the C1288 code as Current. I never tried to delete it while driving, but I figured that I could.
I had mine in to the dealer a few weeks ago with C1287. All they did was reprogram the PCM and the code has not come back. On mine it was just a software thing. It might be worth a try...

You are probably referring to TSB #01-05-25-004 (ABS module update). My car is a late 2002 and it already has the ABS update addressed in this TSB.

Sounds like..
Also, the TSB had different symptoms than what is described above. Before I had the software update applied by the dealer to my '01, I would always get a service AH message while parking or unparking, or driving in tight spaces at low speed.
Believe it was maybe a sensor problem at the steering boundaries.
