Just finished it....It's so much better than the original finish and after scrubbing the airbag cover and removing the cheap Corvette decal(I bought it, what a waste) I'm very happy with it. It took 4 hours of work.
Very original. I'm not sure I'm crazy about all the Red, but it does look nice.
How did you re-finish it? The finish on my steering wheel isn't in too good of shape, and I'd like to refinish it - probably in black though.
SEM soap, SEM leather and SEM Vinyl Prep, scrubbed the ^%$# out it for about an hour. Let dry for an hour, then SEM Colorcoat. I used a stiff toothbrush for all the creases and symbols.
You can do the same with SEM colorcoat in Black or whatever.
The only other one I've seen in person was in one of those 1953 C5/C1 conversions. I know they charge tens of thousands for the color change and body work. Fortrunately I can perform the same work they do and not spend much except my labor.
OK...Jay (Leno) you should call me....and make an offer!

would look good in a silver car, the color of silver of the old mercedes gullwing....
that steering wheel was great work man, looks good
I've got something interesting planned by way of a car wrap on my exterior that all that red would look good with....I won't copy your unique piece of work though ;-)

I'm thinking about doing the same thing but in black, my steering wheel looks so aged!
I just don't want to overspray anything else!
Looks great!
I used those cheap plastic sheets at Dollar Tree stores, then painters tape to mask everything off. It's no big deal. Oh I also jacked up the front end so I could turn the Steering Wheel around to make sure I got complete color coverage front, back, and all around it.
D*mn Ric, that looks awesome!! You've been rally busy with this car since you got it, you can come down and work on mine some now. I need a few more red accents in mine and on mine, I don't have your talent though. L8R ZFLASH
never thought that i would not want an all red interior but wow, that really looks great! very unique, and i love unique mods. you should be proud of all the hard work you've done to your car. it looks fantastic! i give it two thumbs up
After driving a couple days in it, it's no wonder Corvettes from the past became such icons with red interiors! Shame on GM for not continuing the tradition. You should see the jaws drop on those who walk by and look inside. Wish the rain would let up so I can pull the top off.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
