Default C5 Error code 449?

My 'check engine' light came on with about 29K miles on my '05. My technician checking it explained to not comprehending me that the car wouldn't pass an emissions test and I should have the problem checked if the light came back on after he cleared the error.

The next time I started the car, the check engine light came on again. What can I expect when I take the car in for the appointment I made? Is there anything I can do to fix it myself? Is this an expensive intervention? What can you share?

What can you share?

First off, you can check the codes yourself.

There are 6 buttons to the right of the steering wheel. I forget the order, but they are Fuel, E/M, Reset, Options, ?, ?. Forget what they're named, do a search here. I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Press reset until all the messages in the DIC go away. Press and hold the 4th button down (Options?) and then press the top one 4 times (?). That will bring you into the code menu. Then use the buttons to scroll through the list. E/M will exit. Use Reset to clear a code.

Your code of P0449 means:

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective
2- Check connevtor and wiring
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister
4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid

What year is your car?? You say that it's a C5 (C5 error code 449) but state that it's a 2005 - that makes it a C6!

I tried clearing the code as you describe and was unable to reset the tripped code. Also the codes were not explained but only listed as their number as they paged. I did see all the codes listed as either no codes or the number of listed codes. What does all that mean?

Read through this

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...d-ii-codes.php

Then go out to your car and do the procedure. Write down all the codes that come up and post them back here.

You can also 'search' each code and get more info or probably a fix for it.
