I am new to the corvette game and was looking into a supercharger, car is stock other than borla exashast and k&n filter. Anyone have any advice on weather the car/engine will hold up with 5-7 psi boost at 6000 ft elevation or if additional mods are required, this is my first hot rod and want to up the ante
I've been looking and asking the same. I've settled on the A&A unit although there are apparently several good choices available. As for upgrades doesn't look necessary other than replacing valve springs. Check some of the treads on valve spring failures. RWH kept under 600 you should be good with stock bottom end assuming good condition.
Yeah, I was looking at the a&a myself, everything I was reading acted like you just bolt on and go, with potential of upping the injector size, I don't have a problem with beefing it up but no need in spending more than nessecary, or shelling the engine. I was hoping to get between 450 and 500 at the wheels, but i travel a lot and don't have much time to tinker with it. Anyone have a response to what I could or should expect to brake if anything?

You can expect the stock clutch to fail at a minimum. If you drag race you can start breaking drivetrain components. But if you just like to cruise around with occasional roll on sprints you should be fine (except for the clutch.)
Looks like FI is the best bang for the buck, and keeps the car very street able. Look down the line a ways for my post on are down sides to super chargers, there are some really helpful responses from some real knowledgable guys! Clutch looks like a good change but I'd let yours run out first. I think everything depends on how you treat your car as to what will or will not hold up.

The valve spring failures you are speaking of came in the 02-03 ZO6. I believe they finally fixed it in 04. 01 Didnt have spring failures. Different springs, different cam.
To the Op. HOWEVER i will tell you...if you plan to go FI it may be in your best interest to rebuild the bottom end. Not necessarily bc the stock bottom end cant handle it(600+rwhp and youll bc a ticking time bomb). Its bc the 01ZO6 is KNOWN for oil consumption (as me how i know). Its just a matter of how bad. I mean its your option but i too plan to go FI down the line before too long and im not comfortable building a FI monster knowing it drinks oil.....
I recently bought a 2001 Z06 with 60,000 miles. Stock except A&A supercharger and stronger clutch. it makes 531hp at the rear wheels and drives like a stock car when you're behaving. The supercharger is very nicely done and the people at A&A are very helpful. It seems like a great combination.

Oh i believe it! Im not down playing A&A bc that IS the kit i plan to go with. Out of curiosity, how often do you check your oil level??? I mean one should do this anyway, but having an 01ZO6 and you should plan on double checking.....

I haven't had it long enough to have any experience, only 2 weeks. It's going to the track on the 28th, so I'll know more after that.
I have noticed I'm a 1/2 quart low every 3000 miles, from what you all are saying it sounds like this is a common problem. Are there any remedies other than just to live with it? Out of pure curiosity, how much meaner is a c5 z with 500 rwhp compair to the stock version? 1 sec+ faster in the quarter or more significant than that? Also should there be oil viscosity changes made or keep running the factory recommended weights?
I always run 10w30 just for that reason. honestly there isnt a "remedy" and dont dare start putting in oil fix gunk you can by. That kinda stuff will do more harm than good in these motors. The only real and RIGHT way to fix it is to have it torn down and re-ringed. I just chose to live with mine bc i know i plan on rebuilding it in the future. It has gotten worse with its age too. Mainly bc i am young (bought my Z at 22 now 27) and couldnt afford to do it. It will be paid off in less than a year and i plan to save up and forge the bottom end for FI. To answer your question about a 500rwhp vette....your talkin a 10sec car if you can get it to hook. Many ways to acheive this goal.
