Default Headlight help

I am moving to Iowa in a couple weeks and would really love some brighter headlights because my current ones are not too bright and with the new unfamiliar roads i could really use the extra light. what brands are out there preferably cheaper and do HIDs? Also my left one has just stopped popping up today so are the complicated to fix or should i just go with fixed mount system?

Default I went with Silverstars not HID but brighter than stock

Think it cost me about $30 for low beams. Rarely use high beams but typically use my fog lights with the low beams. Replaced the fogs with type 885 50 watt bulbs. MUCH brighter than the 37 watt OEM bulbs and won't melt anything. They were inexpensive too. Used the old fog lamps in my Montana which had even lower wattage fogs in it. Made a difference there too. If you have deep pockets go for HIDs but watch it. You might get flagged when you register the car in Iowa. They looked over my old Camaro with a fine tooth comb when I moved out there.

Here's what hundreds of people have found out about the stock headlights and upgrades:

Factory headlights: They just suck

Aftermarket bulbs: They cost between $35-60, and while they are better than stock, they're still pretty lousy.

HID plug and play kits: Cost between $70-120 Defiantly a lot more light, but horrible glare, Illegal and the pattern doesn't help you see much further.

Projector-based HID headlights: Cost $400+ These are the most extensive and expensive headlight option, but you get what you pay for. The end result with most of these kits is finally being able to see at night.

Im thinking after market now because, in addition to the light being burnned out, the gear stripped out on one and the other either is worse or the motor just died so any good flush mounts out there? i like the idea of the depos but i think the bulge looks like crap, or will this need to be a custom job?

The best thing I ever did was after market HID's I can see now when I drive at night.
All other bulb only changes are a waste of time..
SilverStars, HIR, tried them, they suck

Well you need to factor the cost of repairing your motors and converting to HID projectors vs the fixed headlights. Gear motors can run up to $250 a piece if you cant find used ones, then you can spend another $50 per for replacement metal gears for the motors to avoid them stripping again. The projectors with HID run the gambit from already HID to those you can buy on Ebay (if still available) and then convert to HID. The cost can be as high as $1500. But again it all depends on what you like in the looks, how adept you are at doing the work yourself, and what your budget is. Doing a little research will help you make your decision. There are vendors here on the forum (RadioFlyer, JW Motorsports to name a couple) who can assist you and have the products for sale. Contacting them would be a good idea as well. Good luck but remember the headlights are just the start. Then you will be adding HID fog lights, LED tail lights, clear corners with LED lights and LED strips. Ask me how I know.
