So....if the $150 is going to the guy's boss or owner of the shop, then tip the bloke.
If the guy doing the detail is the only person involved, then he gets what he quoted. If you feel he went above and beyond the expectation of the original cost, give him another $20 with instructions to buy beer only....

I agree with this philosophy. That said, I detail my own cars.When I had my wheels, rotors, calipers and brake lines upgraded I brought all the parts to my local shop for installation. I'm always nervous about anyone touching my car but the mechanic at the shop did a fantastic job and treated my car with care so I tipped him. Now whenever I bring the car in this guy is front and center to work on it and I trust him.
