I added a little engine bling and installed some chrome engine caps. They look great, however I noticed they were piping hot after I drove the car. I know the LS1 drives hot, however I never realized how hot until I touched one afterwards.
My question is whether it's OK to keep these on all the time or should these be for show only? Not that I wanted them for show only. I just thought they looked nice.
Also, any risk that they could damage the hood liner?

I doubt they are touching the hoodliner and they probably are not any hotter than the engine is. I run some chrome plated aluminum caps on mine and have had no problems at all - with the hoodliner or otherwise. I have run them for several years.
I have heard of people who have a lot of chrome engine bling having problems when showing their cars - the chrome reflects the sun onto the hoodliner and does some damage.
I have chrome caps on mine and except for the cap on the surge tank, they are all installed all the time without problems. Been doing it for over 3 years. Unfortunately I cannot close the hood with the cap on the surge tank so it is only installed at a show.
Yes they do get hot from engine heat and sun reflecting off them at a show.
Thanks. I noticed the coolant/surge tank cap was rubbing against the hood liner so I may need to remove that one.
I bought these because I liked the way they look and not only for shows as I only attend a few shows each year. I'm thinking about swapping the coolant tank chrome cap cover for the chrome ring cover that shows the yellow warning face of the OEM coolant cap.

I installed one of those embroidered hood liner covers so mine is a little thicker than stock. I noticed that the coolant cap did leave an indentation in the hood liner but that is the only area I noticed. My Callaway Honker air bridge also touches the hood liner.
I usually pop my hood after I park it in the garage after each drive just to let some of the heat out and I then lower it without locking it down until the next drive.
