Default Trans cooler

I have a thread on an oil cooler in tech/performance. If I end up putting it on I will most likely do a transmission cooler while I have the fans out etc. Just want opinions on transmission coolers for street cars. Do they really increase the life of the transmission? Or is it detrimental if the fluid is not heating up properly?
I upgraded to 3.42 gears and will be doing a converter someday. I have thought of putting in a cooler to prepare for it. Is it something I should wait to do, or can I do it now?

You should definitely put in a tranny cooler - especially if you're doing a hi-stall converter. I put one in the wife's C5 when I did her 3.42/converter upgrade. Keeping tranny fluid temps lower, particularly during the hotter months, is a tranny life-extending mod.

Here's my installation thread.

I agree with Patches!
I had the same concern about trans fluid not getting warm enough as I live in the PNW. So when I installed my plate cooler I did so with one of these little marvels

keeps the trans fluid out of the cooler until it reaches 170 degrees. Works great for me.

Now I am thinking about an oil cooler as well
