Default HVAC system

So the climate control display in my c5 has gone completely out, and I know there are way to fix it or put LEDs in it. However, it is also weird off grey or faded black and doesnt match the black interior or my black aftermarket deck. I was wondering if anyone has seen a C6 climate control system in a C5 and how it looks. I think it would look clean. Just throwing the idea around!

Yup, they're grey not black.

Nope never saw a C6 HVAC unit in a C5. In looking at it I dont think it will fit the opening, and doubt the connections would mate.

Fixing the dim/blacked out temp display is not hard if you want to. The console comes out with four bolts and three screws. And the HVAC unit has two screws holding it in the stack and a plug connection. You could have it out and in your hand in 20 - 25 minutes being careful and never having done it before. I (or anyone else that has had the console apart) could have it out in 10 minutes. From there its just a few screws to open the case and a few points you have to hold a solder iron to to resolder the chips on the board. These are big, clunky automotive grade chips (not little fragile computer ic's) so theres not much potential for ruining anything. Its as simple as holding the iron on the connection until the existing solder melts and letting to cool to reseat the chips. The solder joints are bad thats why the display fails, the chips are good.

This thread discusses how to do it

And I haven't seen anyone post up about putting a C6 HVAC controller in a C5 either. Have my doubts that it would be an easy swap if it could be done at all.
