Default 2 cats or 4 cats

what i would like to know is: does a stock c5 z06 have 2 or 4 cat converters? my stock 2004 coupe has 2 short cats and 2 longer cats. if the z06 has only 2 ,is that why they are louder than my coupe? i would
like more exhaust sound without spending a ton of money on after market systems. i did gut out the stock mufflers, but it was not much louder. is the exhaust coming out of the cat quiet or is the muffler
still keeping it quiet? my buddys z06 goes straight back from the cat(s)
and it is loud. (no mufflers) i hope i make sense. thanks.

It should only have two. My 99 has two... one on each side. And yes, cats really quiet things down. A straight pipe will be allot louder than a system with most any type of muffler though.

what i would like to do is put straight pipes all the way back after both
cats on each side. no mufflers. remember, i don't have a z06. would this setup be still too loud? how much drone if any? thanks.

Very loud and plenty of drone. Maybe you should install electric cutouts. That way you could control when it was rediculously loud and not have as much issues with neighbors and police.

I took my mufflers off and ran straight out my x-pipe for a few days to see how I liked it. It was no where near as loud as my old trans am with a cut out before the cat, but still pretty obnoxious. I wouldn't mind if it sounded like a V8, but the LS1 sounds like a motor boat or some kind of ricer. Lots of drone and popping on decel too, yes, even with the x-pipe. So It was back on with the mufflers. I was hoping to like the sound so I could drop the 43 pounds my Bassani system weighs for some straight pipes. But there is no way I am going to run around with that noise.

I too appreciate this info. Mine has been a long search for the right exhaust for a C5. I don't have the means to try a bunch of differen't systems and usually you don't find another car to listen to that has just one thing. They have headers also or something that will also have an effect on the volume level. For example, my Corsa Pace Car cat back years ago was disappointingly quiet, but the only Stingers I could find to listen to were with headers and were OBNOXIOUSLY loud!!

I think that GHL Bullets are going to be right but haven't found any to listen to in person.
