I searched for a possible solution on here but could not find anything similar.
When my driver side window goes down it is making a horrible, almost cruching noise. However when it goes up it's just fine. No damage to the glass and nothing has fallen down into the door.
i know I need to take off the panel and take a look but I'd love to order the necessary part and just fix it all at once.
Your window regulator is shot. If you continue to roll it up and down it is going to get stuck.
The good news is it's quite easy to replace. I recently had this same thing happen to me and I called VetteNuts who had a used one. It is an assembly with rails, cable and motor. If you look up "upanddownmainstreet" on youtube there is a step by step instruction video that makes the install a breeze. Very minor tools needed and shouldn't take more than an hour or an hour and a half if you are even decently mechanically inclined.
good luck with your install.
It is unnerving to hear that rocks grinding sound coming from the door isn't it?
I had the same thing happen last week, it was grinding going down, then it got real bad, ordered a new regulator from Zip corvette, came within 3 days, the change was not too bad, just took my time. Cables were fine, I think the gears in the housing are shot.
To Vetteman Jack, excellent write up again as always, wish I could of meet you last Saturday in Hannibal, it was a great show.
