Just wondering if anyone could share their experiences with the pre cut insulation kits out there. I have a 2000 hatchback and looking to install one. I'm more concerned about road noise then with the heat shielding. Any help is much appreciated.
I installed mine from a forum vendor 6 years ago. Db level went down considerably. Even though you are not interested in the heat shielding properties, it does a great job on that especially around the console area. The only reamining noise is the tires which there is not much we can do anything about.
Entire job can be done in a weekend. Pretty straight forward and requires no special tools or knowledge. And it allow you to hear the stereo and have a conversation at cruising speed.
I have H/C/H setup with 3:73's and it really makes a difference in cutting down unwanted noise.
I would not do it in the sun on a hot day. The aluminum reflects sunlight and can get you dyhyrated in a hurry. Ask me how I know...LOL.....
The only negative: The latches that hold down the rear floor covers, at least those in the targa models, will not work afterwards as the insulation will raise the panel just enough not to fasten properly. Not a problem for me as I have a Weather Tech mat back there.
Its really a matter of preference. Some guys like a loud sound on their cars. Some of us want to enjoy the cruise without undue clatter.
I like my setup.
