Hey people. I'm driving and all of a sudden my gas gauge goes from full to empty. So I pull over and shut down, then put my key in and turn. The gas gauge goes back to full then back to empty. This now happens over and over. Has anyone had this same problem? If yes, what's the fix? Thanks.
My Z was doing the same thing a few months ago. I also was experiencing the codes going all wacky from time to time and my window and door locks not working. Come to find out the whole thing was related to the wiring coming in from the drivers door. There is a plug that is located right inside the car where the main wiring comes in thru the hose fitting from the door. peel back the hose fitting and pull the wiring out with the plug and check it out. What I had to do is zip tie it together so it could not move and was plugged in tight. That stopped all of my problems.
Hope this helps!
I'm calling BS on the techron. All it did for mine was to **** me off more because of the cost of the techron.Junk design, reset your trip meter every fillup. On the bright side, you might get lucky and just have a dead zone like mine and it will read again below 1/2 tank.

I'm calling BS on your reply. I had same issues a few times 2 years ago. Couple bottles of Techron and hasn't happened since.

All I can say is that it worked for me and a lot of other people on this forum. No BS.
I run a bottle of Techron through at least once a quater.
I run a bottle of the Techtron through EVERY time I fill up with non-ethanol 93 gas available here in Virginia at Southern States Cooperative's.
Advance Auto usually runs a special about once a month, buy one get one free. Never had a problem since the first time my gage took a dive on the way home from the dealer!

Your reply is bulls*! I had a flaky gas guage, and since I started using Techron, its been fine. Bottle in every time I fill up!

Techron or Sea Foam may cure the problem, worked on one of mine but not the other. The problem one (my '01) would read Full, get to 3/4s and drop to Empty. When about half the tank was gone the gauge would come back reading just below a half and was fine the rest of the way. I tried 20 oz. of Techron every other tankful but never could resolve the problem. Don't bother with GM, they know the problem and recommend dropping both tanks and changing the sensor for about $1000.

The use of Techron has worked for a bunch of owners - but that is not to say it works for all. There could be some underlying problem too. Try the Techron first - if that doesn't work, then search elsewhere. Hopefully, the Techron will solve the issue - and save you a bunch of money in the process.

The bulls* is adding an $11 bottle of techron at each fillup to try to solve a known and common problem with a basic instrument that you need to have. Here in Michigan that drives the price of fuel (premium plus the techron to over $6 a gallon for the average top up).

Techron used here. Never had any issue w/my '99 FRC purchased in '99. I also use Shell preimun. I try to buy some Techron when on sale (buy 1 get 1 free). I use the Techron maybe once a quarter or use some when I'm going on a trip w/a lot of hwy driving. IMO a cheap try at a fix on gas gauge issues. Not all problems solved w/Techron but worth a try. Good luck!
The Forum’s software is set up to block certain words and terms we consider to be inappropriate for use on the site. Typically, the words and terms included are those that are crude, vulgar and/or involve racial epithets.
That does not mean the software will block all inappropriate words or phrases. Setting it up to do so would be an exercise in futility because we wouldn’t be able to identify everything that should be included or the exceptions when the term or phrase would be acceptable in a particular context.
Altering the spelling of words/terms to bypass the blocking feature of the software is in conflict with Forum rules. Moderators try to show some tolerance if the word/term is altered enough so as not to be blatant. As a guideline, moderators often will ignore an otherwise inappropriate word or term so long as at least two letters of the word/term have been omitted or changed to symbols, although that should not be interpreted as a license to sprinkle inappropriate language with symbols in a thread.

I NEVER pay 11 for a bottle of Techron. Usually its 5 on sale. My car is not a daily driver, so it may only get filled up once or twice a month. This is good insurance.

This got me to thinking,so I just dumped a bottle of techron in the tank.Maybe I tried the stuff so long ago,the formula has changed.
If you dumped it into a full tank of gas, there is a chance it will not do the job. There are sensors in both tanks. To get the mixture into the passenger side tank you pretty much have to have less than half a tank, pour a 20oz bottle into the tank and then fill the tank. When the drivers side tank gets full the crossover tube carries the fuel (and Techron ) over into the passenger tank. Pouring Techron into say a 3/4 full tank system means the mix stays in the drivers side tank so the sensor in the passenger side tank gets no benefit.
I'm probably about a half tank, but isn't there a jet pump that is supposed to circulate the fuel between the tanks?
