[Z06] Looking for a 2004 Z06

Looking for a 2004 Z06
Hey guys complete Corvette noob here. I've been racing for many years and with my travel schedule for work I'm mostly focused on autocross as I don't have time to spend an entire weekend (the only time I'm home) prepping for events.
I'm going to be looking at and picking up a 2004 Z06 here in the next few months, for Super Stock autocross. I know the C6 Grand Sport seems to be "the car" but I think a C5 with some fancy shocks will be pretty much just as fast, and I'm more comfortable spending for a C5 Z06. Plus I have always admired the C5 Z06's.
So I'm looking for a 2004 because of the shocks (to start with and then upgrade later) and some of the other improvements. I've done some research on how to look over a used Z06 and the preference seems to be towards private sellers, but I wanted to see if there are any other pointers you experienced guys and gals may want to provide me with.
