I've never heard of it being put into the oil. I've heard it being sucked into the vacuum system with a loose vacuum hose, I've heard it being put through the gas. I've also heard once you put it through the air intake system and the vacuum lines, and clean the intakes out, you need to change the oil.

Never heard of putting it in the oil though... doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

To clean built-up oil residues and contamination from the crank case, add 1½ oz. Sea Foam to each quart of engine oil. Sea Foam will slowly re-liquefy residues and suspend contaminants for easy removal. Monitor oil for color and clarity and change oil and replace filter when oil looks dirty.

quality synthetics won't leave deposits in the engine, crud up the ringlands or get sludgy

seafoam is most often used to clean out pcv vapor sludge in the intake manifold.
