Default Exhaust Note

Can't believe this, replaced my standard C5 mufflers with 40k miles to used Z06 mufflers that look new and the exhaust is quieter than it was before?

Don't mind the exhaust is slightly quieter, probably due to Ti not ringing the same as steel, but I love the weight reduction.

You replaced just the mufflers, and not the entire catback?

yup, after researching so much on here and listening to people on the z06 ti's..man was i ever so diasppointed in them!! only benifit to me is that they weigh nothing thats about it. as for sound its quiet. i had done long tubes, no cats and ti's and it was whisper quiet. im sorry to say but i just came to the conclusion it was the older guys liking of the factory sound of ti's. they dont like loud or drone... now i got heads and cam and full exhaust with a loudmouth and its absolute the loudest, sickening droning thing ever haha, i dont mind. i absolutely hated the ti's.

If you wanted louder, you should have gone with an aftermarket system. My Corsa Indy Pace Cars sound fantastic.

Your old exhaust was louder probably because the insides and baffles were deteriorating. If you wanted louder, why didn't you get something aftermarket?

Interesting thread.

I see so much on this forum that the Z06 TI's are great and a little louder, that I like hearing another view.

I expected they would be pretty tame since they came stock, but I am surprised that they are quieter than the non Z06 stock system.

I've got 1-7/8ths headers, 3" collectors, X-pipe, and the full Z06 Ti cat-back and mine is pretty damned loud when I step on it. It's not all about the mufflers.

This thread just helped put me in the right direction for sure. I love the sound those Corsa systems make.

I tried both the mod by-pass on Ti mufflers and Corsa hooked up to LG long tube headers and X pipe on my 03Z. Found myself getting into the car way too much for the sound effects with Corsa & long tubes which can get one in serious trouble sooner or later. Off went the Corsa after a couple months. Conclude that by-pass WOT was plenty for me along with long tubes headers. Not too little, not too much. In my earlier years I added mid-year side exhaust on my SWC and Hooker header side exhaust on my 73. Great sound.

Corsa mufflers look real good but they are very heavy. Weight reduction is what the Z mandated, and still does.

I made the same swap on my 02 coupe at exactly the same mileage. I found there was a small increase in sound, but a more aggressive and sexy exhaust note. I was (and still am) very happy with the swap, not to mention they look 100% better than the base exhaust and they're about 20 lbs lighter, right where I need to lose it - on my Vette's fat butt.
