Default Installed HID fixed headlights with halos

Finally got around to installing my new fixed headlights. Yes, the ones on the auction site . I was holding out for someone to make the Depo lights with halos, and this is what I got. I ordered the black headlights, as I don't like the chrome ones. Initial impressions are 1) these are some cheap a$$ headlights, 2) the fit is acceptable, 3) the halos looks good, but are not powerful enough to be seen during the day, 4) the projectors themselves are of questionable construction and they are aimed at tree-top level, 5) they are much cheaper than any other fixed headlight system on the market, and 6) I like them .

I also ordered a 55w 6000k HID kit to replace the crummy halogen low beam bulbs. I did not even use the halogens, so I cannot comment on their light output. The projectors are much too high to be useful for low beam duty. All attempts to lower the projectors via turning the adjustment screw located underneath the assembly were futile. Turning the screw does nothing but make your wrist sore. On the other hand, the 55w HID kit works great and looks great. The halos look cool, but as I said above, are really too weak to be seen during the day. At dusk and nighttime they look good.

Next steps are to stick these suckers in the oven for 20 minutes and crack them open to get at the internal guts for some R&R. It looks to me as though both projector lenses are the same, which makes me think that possibly the low beams need different lenses to function properly. And I will certainly address the non-functional adjustment screw malady if I can. I may end up swapping out the low beam lenses and/or the entire low beam assembly for some name-brand HID parts from wrecked cars (i.e. E55, Maxima, Acura, etc.). Based on research on a certain auction site, these parts are relatively cheap. While I am at it, I may see if I can swap some more powerful LEDs into the halos, or maybe replace them all together with some CCFL halo rings ala BMW.

So here are some pics just after install. I need to get some night shots to show the halos better. I wired them to come on with the ignition via a fuse tap in the fuse box wired into a 40w relay. Works like a champ. Still deciding whether to paint the housings yellow or leave them black. Enjoy, and keep the "I hate fixed headlights" comments to yourself, please!

I have tried 2 different headlight set ups in the last few days, ultimately staying with fixed lights myself. Leave the shrouds black, the contrasting colors look better IMO.

Yes. You do often get what you pay for and depot makes cheap s##t. They mainly cater to imports which is a flooded market. If you get into quality headlamps such as the Hella 60mm projectors with glass lenses I use, just the 4 headlamps retail for about $200. Quality headlights costs more than depo's retail price in just parts.

They look pretty good considering all the problems you mentioned. With the other black accents you have on the car (stripes, wheels), I think I would leave the housings black - makes for a nice color contrast on the car.

Here are some shots in the dark garage. You can really see the halos now (plus the cove LEDs ):
