I just saw on Barrett-Jackson Auction they sold a Yellow 2001 C5 Corvette Z06 Convertible... They said the program was canceled due to the C6 coming out, leaving only these very few produced.
Dont know if this was mentioned here before but this was the first time i saw this. I guess these Z06 Verts are out there.
Description
This is a very rare special order prototype #1, documented 2001 GMMG/Skunk Werks Z06 Corvette convertible. One of the two made and is the only one to have the GMMG Phase 2X6R Package, 525hp engine with only 4,100 original documented miles and full documentation and owner history, including the factory original GMMG Inc. letter documenting this 2001 Corvette Z06 PR 1 authentication and GMMG Inc. original Build Invoice. This convertible package was one of two built by Skunk Werks that went into the United States, and one of six built overall, the other four went to Canada. The PR Corvette started as a coupe and has a custom built and designed body kit that John Cafaro and Henry Iovine of Skunk Werks added to the car. GMMG was in the developement stages of building 50 of these Z06 convertible Corvettes when the project was cancelled due to timing of the release of the C6 Corvette and vendor related problems. The one and only PR 1 Z06 Corvette out of a private collection and a rare opportuinity to own number 1. **NOT EMISSIONS COMPLIANT, CAN ONLY BE SOLD TO A DEALER OR OUT-OF-STATE BUYER** Price Sold: $42,900.00
Never heard of such a car. That ground effects piece in front looks soooo tacky and out of place on the car. Aside from that it looks like a nice ride. Cant beleive someone paid over $40k for it.
Just a little clarification, I built the first Z06 convertible for John Cafaro. The car was featured in several magazines and the book Corvette Masterpieces. We built about 20 or so convertibles and about 30 targa tops. These where not prototypes from GM but a little side business that John and Henry had called Skunkwerks.
Many CF members have probably had their Zs chopped into targas, or 'verts. This one pictured is just one of many. A member, Cobra4B, I believe, did his MY ZO6 himself.

Illmac77 (mike) did his own conversion also at the VetteBarn in VA. I saw it in person and it was amazing ! Looked like factory. You could not tell !
At a few car shows we went to I used to tell people it was just a vert badged to make people think it was a Z06. BOY would his blood boil when he heard me tell people that... I can be an azz like that
