Default frustrating mod night!

So the other day i was going to clean the air filter on my Vararam intake. It was there when i bought the car, so i didn't really know much about it. as i started to take it apart it felt like it was foam. looked on line and learned that was common in the early ones. and since the install dates matched what people were saying, that's what i assumed. so i ordered a green filter and iPod kit from Dennis at Double D mods. i get both quickly and start on them last night because i'm leaving on a trip wednesday. well, i take the intake apart to find that it's a k&n filter and the foam i felt was the sealer around it. so now i have a green filter i don't need.

i wish that was the worst of it. i spend the evening taking my center console and bezel out of my car (which slightly freaks me out because this is the nicest car i've done this to) and it goes somewhat smoothly (awesome directions from Dennis. only issue, didn't mention that convertibles need to remove the waterfall). i get everything out and wire up the iPod adapter and everything is looking great. plug my iPhone in and it charges (sigh of relief). i start to play the music and hit the AUX button........nothing. i try again, i reseat cables, i restart the phone, i wait the 3 minutes the instructions say it could take........nothing. now it's 11:30 at night, my car is torn apart, and i have a very expensive car charger.

however, Dennis is awesome to work with. i send him an email, and he responds within minutes. on a freaking saturday night! he gives me some things to try, but unfortunately, nothing works. so now we think there is an issue with my radio.

so, awesome customer service from Double D mods. highly recommend them , bad radio from gm.

I wish there was a mod for these cars to allow all that console crap to come out without messing with the waterfall. Also would be nice if you didn't need the key to get the A4 shifter back to remove that bezel. I bought a spare key now with no keyring on it specifically for taking that bezel out, and not having to remove my key from my keyring, or mess with the large set of keys going through that ignition switch hole in the bezel. Rrrrr, I hate that interior assembly...

I've had similar frustrating "mod moments", however after stepping away and sometimes after a good night sleep, it all comes together the next day and what may have been frustrating the day before then becomes obvious.

Good luck!

BTW - Dennis is a great vendor and really looks out for us!

i agree. the waterfall wasn't too bad once i looked at it and figured out why things weren't working. but needing the key in to move the shifter was a pain. but i was able to get the key and fob through with no real issue. but i like the idea of a spare key.

I have found, many times, that what should be an easy mod somehow does not turn out that way.
