Gentlemen: My car is a C5 2000. I have 118K miles on it. I am changing my spark plugs and discovered that the spark plug wires are not stock. I am the second owner and just now found out that my spark plug wires are grounded. Not sure what brand they are but they are red with a ground wire connected to some screws on some valve looking thing on the side of the engine, by the coils. Do I need to get the same type of wire? can i go back to stock..I undersatnd stock wires are AC Delco. The guys at the auto parts store tell me that the ground wires act as a surge protector for the computer and they recommend that i go with the same wire. Not sure which way to go. The ground wires are only available at the dealer for $185. Any recommendations? Will it make any difference if i go with stock..or is the idea of protecting the computer due to ground wires valid? Any advice is appreciated . Thanks.
Shouldnt have an issue going back to a conventional wire setup. Might be a good idea to reset the computer when you change them. Supposedly the coils get used to the output through the wires. This lets it start over and get used the new wires. Not totally sure how it works, just heard that allot.
GMPP, MSD, Taylor Cable, Accel. All are going to do the same thing. The coils are powerful and close to the plugs. New wires are new wires. Thats all they account for. I went with MSD because of their price at the time.
I think something else to consider is RFI...Radio Frequency Interference. It hit home for me when i tuned my vette up a couple of months ago. I bought a cheap set of wires that I thought were a pretty good brand (Bosch) and was constantly getting lousy reception not only on my XM channels but on my local channels as well. I bought a set of MSD red wires on Amazon for $70 shipped. Dont get cheap wires, spend a few more bucks for quality wires.

I just bought some Taylor high temperature silicone wires for mine...have not installed them yet, but they will simply replace the OEM that have over 100K of use at the same time I replace the spark plugs.
I ordered my wires in blue....when I get silicone water hoses, i'll get them in blue too....it goes nice with the silver car. Almost got red....that is traditional "performance" color and looks good too.
These days, any of the major brands will give you superb performance and long life.
