Anyone else overflowed their gas tank a bit when letting the pump run on to shutoff?
Twice now, at different gas stations, I've had the pump overflow the tank a bit, resulting in some gas in the cap area and once it spilled out onto the body panel. I now listen and manually top off the tank when I hear it getting full, but was wondering if this was common on C5s? I have a 2002 vert..
Also, where does the drain in the bottom of the cap area go to? The tank or something?
Yeah, it's not overflowing a TON.. Just enough to splash some out of the fill tube.. Like, the pump is cutting off a second late.. I was wondering if maybe the fill tube angle was weird or something...
There's one pump at the station by me that did this, but only in the Vette...Neon and Trailblazer were fine. So I avoid that pump if I need to fill up. Happened to another guy in town with a C5 also at that pump.
I've had that happen to me once, but more frequently the issue is cutting off too early.
My solution is holding the pump handle to the right. For some strange reason if I do this it works just fine. No early cut offs and no overfilling. Now if I can just figure out why my fuel gauge refuses to work all the time.
Must be a problem with that pump not shutting off a second sooner. Happened to me before, but the station I goto now never had that happen. Try a different station and see if it happens again.
Yeah, I tried two different pumps, at two different gas stations.. After it happened the second time, I just started manually running the pump for the last 1/2 gallon or so. Rather do that than get gas on the paint!
