Hello fellow VetteHeads !
Can someone please help with this issue.
I've been looking for hrs for info and ideas for my prob.
I was granny driving in town, I do not race.
My '97 C5 has 100,000 miles. Automatic trans.
I had an unusual clunk, while driving in town, when it shifted from 1~2.
Now, I have no Rev, or 1st. The car will drive in 2nd and above.
It is noisy at low speeds, soft accel.
I suspect I broke something internally.
I have a shop with a hoist, and am certainly capable of the work, but I can't seem to find any threads on R and R procedures.
Any thoughts, questions, or input would be really appreciated.
Trans is gone man. It will be stopping on you befor long. Get it to a good shop, if me I would pull it and ship to RPM and let rodney and todd shop rebuild it. They have it down on pressure to the lines for these trans to stay in one piece...I would also put new parts in the tube and also both cuplers even if didnt look bad. Also new converter.. Robert

You will not be sorry if you go with RPM! I have an RPM in my vette and it is rock solid! I would also agree that it's time for a new converter as well. Your already in there so not much additional labor. I changed mine out from stock to a Yank 3200 SS and it's amazing!

Went through the same thing about 4 months ago with my A4 tranny. Also let RPM build me one, LVL4, up to 550 RWHP, it's been installed for about 2 months now, all's good.... Also installed Yank 3000 Stealth converter...
Thx, for all the input.
Does anyone have a link to a procedure for R&R ? [remove and replace]
Better yet, how bout I send you guys a plane ticket and ya can come and help me pull it out :-) I'll watch. OK, ok, I'll take a nap.
All seriousness aside, Thx again.
I wouldnt go no more than a 2800 stall in a fully stock car if I didnt have in my mind that I was going to put a big cam in it with the other aftermarket stuff also.. Give me a p.m. if you can find it look at search under the subject that is where I got mine and printed it off and did mine Level VII trans not long ago...Robert

If anyone has a link to a detailed writeup on R&R for an A4 tranny, please let me know. Don't need it right now, but would like to have it for reference.
Jack; I need an R&R procedure, as I expect to start on the project next wk.
I hate to start on this venture W/O some direction.
Kinda like "Ready, Fire, Aim" mentality usually means mistakes.
Maybe Robert can find the procedure he used. How about it, Rob? Y/N?
Any input would help this poor boy out of a jam.

p.m. me your email address if I dont post the link up in here over the weekend.. Robert
I haven't looked for a thread on A6 R&R, but there are several for the M6 and M12. So, if you are coming up short on your A6 searches, search for clutch replacement (or similar). The process isn't identical, but it will give you a flavor.
If you are going to get that deep into the car, do yourself a favor and arm yourself with a copy of the workshop manual first. You'll be glad you did!
I just ran across a set of manuals.
Book 3 shows the procedure, in detail.
Now all I need is ambition.
Thx, everyone for all the Chimes. Greatly appreciated.
I'll keep y'all posted on my progress.
THE BEST ONE I HAVE SEEN WAS FROM www.cajundude.com/differential.htm It has tools and step by step this is the one I used to pull by trans and same time I did my c6 z06 cradle swap out on my car..... Robert

Ok, guys... I've read all the shop manuals and procedures.
While she's up on the hoist, it seems to be a fairly straight forward job.
Let the project begin...
My 1st observation is: Why remove the torque tube? Seems to me, by simply removing the 3 converter bolts, the trans/diff will slide back a few inches, then drop straight down.
Help me understand why I need to remove the Tube.
