when i first purchased my 2000 vette i noticed that the left headlight would stick sometimes. usually when i havent used them in a few days. i solved this problem by loosening taking off the cover to the manual actuator screw or switch...i would loosen it and tighten it back up and the headlight would start working again. this worked for me fine until recently about a few days ago i lowered my headlight and the left headlight when it went down it made this grinding noise for about 10 seconds then the noise went away, i turned on the head lights again and no sound going up but coming down same noise. i intially thought it was a bad motor but the motor is working fine it comes up and goes down at the same time and is flush with the hood. i had my buddy look at it and he said his guess was that it wasnt the motor that it was one of the gears. now my vette is making this horrid noise so im willing to make it stop by any means neccesaary so im looking at getting an entire new motor completely. but i was wondering before i spend the $140+ has anyone experienced this before and is there any way to fix the gears with out having to replace the entire motor itself...i appreciate u taking the time to read this and any help would do thank u
It is a common problem. The gears are plastic and strip out. Get a metal gear from one of the vendors and replace it. Or get 2 metal gears and do both.

Both gears should run just under $100 shipped. It is an easy fix.

Thank u for ur response...o have a few more questions when its making the noise do the gears stop the manual screw from spinning cuz it spins for the amount of time it makes that noise....the one that doesn't make the noise doesn't spin like that....I forgot to mention that I'm wondering if that was another problem or was still the gear...also if u had a name of a good vendor where I could go....thanks again!!!!
Yes. Some people will also flip the gear 180 degrees and use the side that's not stripped out. I just got my new bronze gear from Corvette Mods. I think that's the name of them. I think they are a vendor on here. I think it was about $50.00. You can also order the plastic ones off fleabay. I think they are just a few bucks.

Yup, that is us! These things are flying off the shelf. The bronze are LEAGUES better than the nylon gears. Don't waste your time and effort on those, they WILL fail again. Order the brass sets!

Get rid of those plastic gears and you'll be good to go again for a long time.
