GM made the 50th Ann. interior in gray with padded armrests attached to the doors. There are about 8 studs that go through the door panel to secure the padded armrest.
No offense, but are you certain of this? I thought the 04 CE and the 03 AE had the same interior.
EDIT: Verified. You are absolutely right. Is there a studded version in the aftermarket?

I would like to see pictures of how these are installed if anyone has ever had to take the arm rests off to re-attach. I would like to see what kind of hardware was used. The arm rests looks very similar to those sold be Vette Essentials, however those are installed using double-sided tape.
Hopefully not to jinx myself (oops too late) but mine is an 01 with 75k miles, born and rased in TX, then it was sold off to CA in 06, uses Armor All and No delaminating
Ditto, I too have a this happening on the drivers side only, and I do rest my arm during driving. I live in California so it's not the location. The passenger side is fine, due to the fact I don't have passenger 50% of the time so I think it's just pressure on the vinyl which with time causes the material and glue to get weak, but that's just my .02 cent. I too would like to see a fix for this. One way for me is to install the arm rest the is glued on top of the stock arm rest area, but I wonder if it will wiggle due to the base being loose. Any thoughts?

That's the exact problem. The taped on armrest will just float on the detached vinyl. Not a solution at all. An armrest with studs and holes drilled in the door panel is a much better attempt at a fix although not perfect.
That's what I thought, so back to the drawing board...Maybe a needle with some kind of glue injected under the vinyl in that area may work to re-glue the material back to the foam or backing...???
I have a '97 with this problem on the driver door only. It has always been a California car so I have doubts that it is related to humidity.
Also, I have never used Armor All or vinyl conditioner on the door.
One theory is that it related to whether the driver or passenger tends to rest their arm on the armrest, as in my case, the delamination is only occurring around the arm rest area.
Either way, I'd love to know how one would go about fixing it without replacing the door panel in its entirety.
rob here , i agree i think its how you put your arm on the arm rest .i have the same problem on only the drivers side . i live in canada toronto . the humidity has nothing to do with it
So it looks like humidity is not the issue. I posted earlier in this thread, and someone asked the yr of my car, It's an 03, it usually sits in the garage, only driven a couple times a week, and it's the right panel that is giving way, where no one ever rides. Go figure!
