Just wanted to share some pics and experience with the Pfadt transmission brace. It was a breeze to install by the way. Only took 2 hours. And after several test drives I was pleased to find that the vibrations people talk about were only slightly noticeable and not at all violent. It is there though, but only at idle for me. The car handles better and is stiffer in the rear. I can feel more positive movement forward rather than how it felt before. It just seems tight and feels good. All in all I am pleased with the outcome.
Some of that vibration may be due to that dampener being removed.
That may be true. The new brace wont allow it to go back on. And the instructions say that it is no longer needed with the new brace. But they may have over estimated their design.
Looks cool. School me on this. What are the benefits of going to that type of transmission brace? Do you feel any improvement?
PS: I have the exact same suspension setup (Bilstein shocks, Eibach swaybars). I love the way the red sway bar looks from behind.
I think its mainly beneficial for drag racing. It helps eliminate wheel hop and drive-train movement for improved power transfer to the ground. You sacrifice some comfort while driving due to increased vibration through the chassis. It's kinda like replacing a rubber engine or transmission mount with a solid/poly-urethane mount.
Edit* works best when you have other supporting mods, like slicks or stickier rubber, light-weight wheels, stiffer springs/shocks/coil-overs, etc...
Exactly right. My car is getting set up for occasional drag racing. I did this to support the power that will be going in in the future, and for the high stall converter that will be going in. I plan to track the car first on the 19th for a before and after of the converter install.
Supporting mods are, sway-bars, metal end links, C6 tunnel plate, Bilstein shocks, lowered, lightest possible wheels on my budget (OEM Mag wheels), and NTO5 tires. The rear is a 3.42 diff as well and the rotors are cross drilled and slotted if you want to know any other mods in the back. Those are the Borla straight pipe's too.
The idea is to stiffen up any movement of the diff/trans. It likes to rock around on the stock rubber mount. This gives the driver comfort and less feel of the harshness of the drive train. This brace stops that movement and under heavy load with sticky tires, stops the rear from jumping around (which causes wheel hop).
Vibrations and nose is amplified throughout the vehicle. It is not for the faint of heart. But I like that kind of thing. Loud exhaust, stiff ride, screaming gears (I have terrible gear whine).
One other thing, and this is my problem nothing to do with Pfadt's mount, but somehow this made my gears about twice as loud. I am considering a new ring and pinon now... The whine was bearable before. But if you have gear whine, expect it to be substantially amplified. It is almost too much to bear now!
