Default Tire buying Issues

What do I have to do to find a set of tires for my Z06?

When I bought my Z06 in July I didn't know that the inside of my tires were worn so bad that I had to replace them. So I went down to local tire shops and tried to price out and buy a new set of tires so I could enjoy my ride the rest of the summer. The local tire stores did not have my size of tires, or the tires were on back order, or could not get the size of tires that I needed. Of course they could get in the most expensive tires on the market, which of course I could not afford.

So I decided to hold off for a month to see if the tires that were on back order came in. Of course they haven't. I then called Sears to see if they had my tires. They told me that they would have to order the tires but they would be in in two weeks. So I bought some Bridgestone Potenzas RE760 and put them on my sears card because it was free interest for a year. Can't beat that. Two weeks came and gone so I called the store to find out where my tires were. The saleperson told me that the tires were on back order and will not be getting the tires in for at least 5 weeks. Well, that was two months ago, and better yet I got charged for the order. I called the store today and asked where my tires were again since I got a bill in the mail, and the saleperson said they did not have a clue when or if they are going to get my tires in . After about three hours of being on the phone with sears reps and the credit card center I finally cancelled my order. I am not going to make payments toward something I don't even know I am going to get.

So in a nutshell, I have an awesome car that I cannot find tires for and is sitting in a storage unit collecting dust. What a waste of a summer.

Just had to vent.

What about buying online and taking them to get mounted?

I have tried tirerack.com and discounttire.com. The problem that I am having is that I can't find a matching set unless I change out my rims. I am not in the market right now to change the size of rims, plus I like them. In addition, I am kinda pressed for cash, so putting the tires on my sears card was my only opinion at the time. Plus, the local tire shops do not like to mount and balance tires bought online without a hefty charge, if they will even mount them all. I guess I could take my chances and take the new tires to Walmart, but I heard some horror stories at Walmart.

I just checked tirerack.com. Tires are on Back order. I really do not like feel or the price of the Goodyear F1

Try switching to 305/35/18's in the rear. You don't have to get the exact same tire sizes that came from the factory.

I love my Nitto 555rII's for my FRC on C5z wheels.

Take a closer look at Tire Rack.
They have a list of tire installers all over the country setup where you order the tires and they send them directly to the installer. When they come in, about 2 or 3 days, you get a call and bring your car over. A friend of mine has a shop and does this all the time.

Another place is Treaddepot, but I'm not sure if their installer program is operational yet.
They beat Tire Rack on some tires I bought a couple weeks ago.

I needed a couple new front tires on my 'Vert, but ended up finding a good deal on a set of 4 lightly used tires with a set of wheels. The seller was local to our summer home, so I went and picked them up.

Search Tire Rack, But search for tire sizes, not by car model. 265/40/17 sizes are getting harder to find; consider getting 275/40/17s for the fronts and 295s or 305s for the rear.
Continental Extreme Contact DW summer tires are available in 275 and 295 sizes at Tire Rack.

Part of this problem may be your location. Many tire stores in colder climate areas try not to stock summer tires once fall sets in. The Hankook's are out of stock in my S.E. Michigan area and probably won't be stocked again until spring.

DO NOT rule these out. Mine have been on the car since 2009. My drivers side front is down to the belts because of an alignment problem, but the other three are in tip top shape. Worn, but good. I'm buying them again.

I highly recommend Tire Rack. I ordered my Conti DWs from them in the correct size to fit a C5 ZO6. They arrived in two days and I took them to a reliable tire shop for mounting and balancing. Road Force balancing is the only way to fly, by the way. I truly love the performance and quietness of these tires!

I got the last pair of Bridgestone RE760 rears in the country in May. I got them from Discount tire in Aurora. When I went in to get them mounted, they said they had received over a hundred phone calls from other tire dealers to see if they could get from them. I was told that Bridgestone would be making more in 6-8 months. There may be more in the spring. I like the tires. Although the veredsteins look good. The price is close to the Bridgestones.
