Using heavy duty chemical paint strippers from OSH, I spent a week and successfully stripped two Fiske FM10 centers. Underneath the finish looked pretty good. I brought them to a wheel refinishing shop and got a quote to have them re-polished a slight machining (so they look like brand new FM10's) and re-cleared. The guy at the shop took a look at them and said, it's a good thing I didn't sand blast them or else he would have just turned me away. It turns out that blasting on a somewhat, webbed center like the FM10 would be a major pain and to get back that machined look would be waaay too much work and costly.
I told him I had two more centers which still hadn't been stripped and he said, bring them in and we'll take care of the stripping for no additional charge since we do it all the time!
Anyways... just glad I got lucky and am getting back a killer set of wheels w/13" wide rears!!
It's easy to remove powdercoat with a cutting torch.I know it sounds retarded, but just running the torch over the powdercoat with a bit of extra oxygen burns it right off without overheating the part.
mr gasket remover..works like a charm i know this only because i took powder coated red intercooler pipes for a wrx...sprayed mr gasket remover on them..and the powder coat was falling off in seconds..did a really good job too
