[Z06] Brake upgrade options??
Here is the situation... I have 17K miles on the stock system and have gone through 2 warping issues and have had enough and am ready to upgrade to better/higher quality components.
What are my options for the following criteria...
1. Replacing only rotors and pads (lines and fluid secondary if budget allows) **SIDE NOTE - do not want the hassle of having to bleed brakes associated with performance fluids.
2. Keeping stock size wheels
3. Slightly to greatly better braking performance
4. Low/no noise pads (needs to be quiet as stock)
5. Longer lasting rotors that won't warp every 7K miles of
non-racing use
6. Street driven 99% of time, car may seen 1 or 2 road courses
7. Budget: ~ $1500.00
What are my options and what are your suggestions fellow Z06 enthusiasts.
Oh and a quality shop to do the work in the Bay Area, CA
I have tracked both my 2001 and 2002 Z06's many miles (my local track is extremely hard on brakes) and have never warped a rotor. In your case since most of your driving is on the street, I would go back with stock unless you want different looks. You could get a set of stock rotors cryo'd by Doug Rippie Motorsports. They should resist warping.
And here are a few items to help ensure you don't warp your rotors.
1) Never put the parking brake on when the rotors are hot
2) Don't drive through a puddle with hot rotors (or spray them with a hose)
3) Be positive that the lugs are torque'd properly
Good luck
Anyone else having this kind of issue with the Z06? Need to know if I have to adjust my budget for upgraded rotors and pads within the next 12 months.
