Hi
I just purchased a 2000 triple black convertible corvette. What things normal go wrong with this model? I would like to know so I can keep an eye on them. What maintenance items should be done? I have 32,000 miles on the car. Any cool modifications that be easily done?

I have found one thing. The trunk lid will not open enough to grap. Does this mean the gas struts are bad?

How, some paint is missing on the plastic center piece on the wheel? Is there a color code for that so I can get a matching color of spray paint?

One more question, I will need tires soon. I am thinking about getting a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP. Has anybody purchased these tires? Are they any good? Do I really need run flat tires?

Thanks
Ted

Congratz on your purchase, you will love it!!!!! As to mods, check out the many posts on this forum. Many are easy and require little mechanical expertise, but many others should be attempted only with a good deal of experience. You will just have to use good discretion. However, there is a wealth of information here and many people ready and willing to help a newbe get his feet wet, have a lot of fun, and make some really cool mods a reality on his ride!!

As to the Michelins, I had a set on my previous '99 and they were great although a little pricey. My present one does not have run-flats and though it is a very personal choice, I will never spend the money for run-flats again!!!!!!! My car is sooooooo much quieter and more enjoyable with regular performance tires that it is worth the change without even figuring that they are half as expensive!!!!!

Congrats on your purchase - and welcome to the forum.

The Michelin tires are very good if you want to stick with runflats. If you want to go with non-runflats, a very good tire is the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO - I'm running them on my C5 and like them a lot.

Since you just bought the car, unless you have access to some detailed maintenance records, you would be wise to change all the fluids (coolant, brake, PS, diff, etc.), take a look at all hoses and belts, check the brake pads, etc. Just normal maintenance items. The owner's manual gives a maintenance schedule listing and if you don't have a manual, you can download one from gmpartshouse.com.

Here are some files that talk about common problems on the C5 - just check the car over and see if you notice anything (especially leaks). I have more files on the C5 available and if you'd like a copy, just PM me your e-mail address.

I agree with the other member here I will never waste the money on run flat either although a lot of members on here with disagree with as with your mods the sky is the limit
Congrats on your Vette - Welcome to the Forum

One thing most people don't discuss is addressing the need to potentially have your car towed. Most agree you should use a flat/tilt bed to tow your car. However, because of the low front end, almost every flat bed cannot bring it onto the flat bed without some ramps/boards. Before you need a towing company (never happens at a good time), find a local company that can do it correctly with experience. Get their number and keep it in the car or wallet so they are the ones you call if you need it.

Hi Ted,

Congrats! I also have a 2000 triple black coupe. I don't use runflats. I don't even use the TMPS. I'm running Hankook Ventus V12 evo's. You can see the mods I've done in the various albums on my profile page. Enjoy your 'new' ride!!!! I've had mine for 5 years now and haven't regretted it for a moment!

Congrats on your purchase! Post some pics when you can - I use http://photobucket.com/ for hosting pictures.

Lots of cool stuff to do to C5's. I'd suggest to spend some time on this forum (general & tech) and browse through all the past posts on upgrades - no need to rush anything. As you stated, start with maintainence first.

Welcome to the forum!

I didn't see it answered but yes your struts are bad. You can get a spring from a vendor here for 15 bucks or you can get a spring at a hardware store for about 2 bucks that will pop it open enough to grab it. I can send you picture of mine if you need it so you can see what you need.

PM me if you want it.
