Cosmetic issue with HUD display
See the larger square piece under the clear plastic in this picture? It has the curved top and small hole in it.

On my car, somehow that has ended up with a "crackle" finish. Probably from heat although it is only a part time driver.
Sooooo...
1. How hard is it to get to?
2. What is it made off?
3. Can I just sand it smooth and repaint it?
4. Have any of you done this or had the same issue?

I thought my HUD was the only crackle-finish one around! Now I don't feel bad. LOLOh, and at car shows, I usually put the registration card inside my windshield right above the HUD unit to hide it.
