In one of my classes I've decided to write a paper on why the corvette is America's greatest sports car; with this being said, I would really appreciate if someone could point me in a good direction for some nice (credible) websites.

I agree with the National Corvette Museum site, and you might check out the Corvette Action Center, Corvette Black Book, Wikipedia, About.com Corvettes, etc.
The sites mentioned by previous posters will be helpful. However, all of them have a built-in bias: namely, they exist BECAUSE of the Corvette. I suspect the OP would like information from sources who are not so biased.
With that in mind, you might wish to visit the national auto mags: Autoweek, etc., whose editors do not wish to be married to any one car brand. The information they might provide could prove to be on target for your needs.
As regards additional "biassed" information sources, you might also ask GM itself (address your request to the appropriate GM heirarchy, such as their global sales/marketing head, someone in their investor relations department, or the head of their Chevrolet division). Specifically, ask if they would direct you to their outside ad agencies who conduct independent research about American sports car owners and their beliefs, preferences, etc. You might be surprised what you can get access to by going this route, particularly since your paper's postulate is, itself, inherently biassed (to whit, you have already assumed it to be true that the Corvette is America's sports car and you are looking for information with which to bolster your claim).
A final source might be research papers authored and published by third party academics (e.g. someone working on his/her doctoral thesis for a business (marketing) degree, etc.). Often these papers are available to the Great Unwashed (us). Focus your search on those universities whose "advanced degree" graduates (masters and doctoral degrees) tend to be employed by the U.S. Big 3 (focus on Northwestern, U. of Michigan, Michigan State, etc. in the midwest, and similar schools in California) and search within those schools' marketing, advertising and communications degree programs).
In any event, you might have lots of fun with this and be pleasantly surprised both as to the information you will get and also the candor and willingness of the information givers.

Creation & evolution into Americas Sports car.
(I did a paper on him myself )
I think it's held that title since the 60's, at least to some folks
Whatever you do, don't watch any of the British Top Gear episode road tests of the Corvette by Jeremy Clarkson!!
Oh man, i completely stopped crediting top gear for those episodes. When they said something like, we believe the best 0-60 the z06 can produce is 5 seconds! After testing it only twice against their Porsche they launched ten or so times.

No Kidding! That guy is so anti-Corvette, it's almost funny. But, I think he does it on purpose. He is known to push people's buttons. He does the same thing with the Porsche 911. He absolutely hates them.
Back to the OP's question, maybe you should ask the forum members what made them purchase a Corvette. You'll probably get some very interesting answers which in turn will help answer your original question.
Why not talk to the Ford guys? If anyone holds the Corvette brand in high regards, it's them. They've been trying for decades to achieve parity.....and have fallen flat.
I mean seriously....it's like one of those Roadrunner cartoons, Wiley E Coyote orders an ACME box of Mustangs and even if they perform on par with a Vette it falls short in the credibility area. It's like no matter what, it's still not a vette.
Beep beep!
