Default Spark plug and wire change

Well, I spent a little over three hours doing the plug and
wire change. I decided to go with AC Delco Iridium plugs
and GMPP 8mm wires. The wires came from forum vendor,
GMPartshouse, and the plugs came from AutoZone and
have a $2 rebate per plug till the end of the year.

I checked the gap on the plugs, and they all needed to
have the gap adjusted. They weren't even all the same.

I can see where people say it takes an hour, but I really
struggled with the wire boots on the plugs. I tried the
wiggle twist and pull method to no avail.

Ended up using channel-locks to get most of them off.
It was hard to get them where they needed to be
and then 'grab' the boot.

Plugs came out ok, I ended up removing the rubber AIR
hose by the check valve to gain some clearance but it
was still really tight access.

Went for a test drive afterwards and of course the
throttle response was improved at any RPM, and a push
of the throttle to WOT from any rpm was improved.

Good to go for another 100,000! Wa-Hoo!!

In any price range or quality you want, you can get a boot puller.

Amazing what having the right tool for the job is worth.

Ps... Good for another 30,000 miles if you prefer not driving 70,000 with the plugs not lighting things up right. By virtue of the fact that you noticed a big difference, should be telling you it was way too long since they were changed. Wires more so than plugs imho.

My 03 has 28k. I should probably consider this as well. She'll be 10 on 11/4!

Agreed dont wait 100,000 miles. Plan to change them every 30,000, and check a few every 3rd oil change.

Do they require the use of those metal shrouds? I can't see
those pullers being more effective than the channel-locks,
especially since I was replacing the wires and could basically
ruin them during removal if necessary. They hang enough off
the end of the plug that I didn't feel that the actual plug
would get damaged.

I also didn't re-use those shrouds as there seemed to be
enough room around the boots.

and that's a good reason to never reuse plug wires. You're likely to damage a few just trying to take them off.

I lengthened my wires
