Default Anyone try installing this in a C5 yet?

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_530VR93...B.html?tp=5684

I am wanting to put a new head unit in my car and I came across the Soundstream vr931NB. I think it looks pretty cool, but am not sure if it will fit.

Let me know what you guys think! Its nearly the size of an ipad!

Thanks

Looks way too big, even with a console modded for a double-din

Its a single din unit. The faceplate is big and is removable. I just don't know if it would cover the hvac controls.

Taken from the product description:

Think outside the box
Soundstream's VR-931NB DVD receiver isn't cut from the same cloth as most in-dash multimedia units. Most are built to be installed in a double-DIN (4" tall) dash opening, so the screen size is by necessity limited to about 7" max. Soundstream's built the chassis of the VR-931NB so it fits into a single-DIN (2" tall) opening, and they've placed a detachable 9.3" screen onto the front. This receiver isn't for every car, or every installation, but if you've got some imagination it could be a real show-stopper in your dash, or a cool addition to an RV. And since the screen is detachable, it can serve double duty as a desktop media player when paired up with Soundstream's KS-1 dock.

Hunter: Welcome to Crutchfield Online Chat. I'm Hunter. How can I help you today?

Bryan: Hello, I was wiondering if the Sound stream VR-931NB
will fit in my 99 C5 corvette six speed?

Hunter: Brian, we don't carry Sound Stream products so I'm guessing your best bet would be to call them directly.

Bryan: its on your website

Hunter: Wow. My bad.

Hunter: That receiver is the only thing we carry and I forgot about it.

Hunter: Let me check...

Hunter: Is your Corvette the convertible and do you have the Bose system?

Bryan: not a convertible and yes bose

Hunter: thanks.

Hunter: It will fit into the cavity opening in the dash but there's a very important consideration...

Hunter: You've got to have nothing below your radio opening because the Soundstream radio is in the top part of the screen and the rest hangs down in front.

Bryan: Ok so its way bigger than the current radio?

Hunter: Yes. The radio itself is a single DIN (2" x 7") but the screen is over 9".

Bryan: diagonally?

Hunter: yes. It's actually 9.3" diagonally.

Bryan: ok thanks

Hunter: Do you have the space?

Bryan: im not with the car right now but ill check when I get home. is my current radio the size of two dins? or like one and a half?

Hunter: Your cavity opening is actually 4" x 8 1/2" but the radio will fit with a dash kit. The overhang is the only issue here.

Bryan: ok ill check it out. so it has a 9.3 diagonal screen but the top will be flush with where my top is now? do you have height/ width dimensions?

Hunter: •9.3" detachable motorized touchscreen display (9-1/8"W x 5-9/16"H x 7/8"D)

Hunter: And, yes, it will be flush to the top of your radio opening.

Bryan: thanks ill check it tonight. do you have a direct line?

Hunter: Yes. You can call me at 1-800-388-2919 ext. 3242. Thanks.

It just might extend down to cover a portion of the HVAC control panel, but hard to really tell without trying to install the unit. Perhaps Crutchfield would know. Post up what you find out about it.

Hunter: Welcome to Crutchfield Online Chat. I'm Hunter. How can I help you today?

Bryan: ok sorry yes i was using a cadcam software to check fitment, and it looks like it will fit

Hunter: Our database says it will fit. Again, the only issue here is that overhang. Your cadd program can't tell you that, right?

Bryan: well the cad program shows a 9.3 diagonal fits within my 4 X8.5 opening with the top being flush

Hunter: Page pushed, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_530VR93...931NB&skipvs=T

Hunter: If you look at the pic, you'll see how the radio is constructed with the "radio" part at the top of the screen and the rest of the screen below. Our dash kit will trim out your dash opening as though you were installing a standard single DIN radio.

Bryan: ok i guess I dont understand.

Hunter: This is all the dash kit is going to do:

Hunter: Page pushed, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209933...93300&skipvs=T

Bryan: ok your saying that if the dash kit centers it up then the bottom gets pushed down

Hunter: The dash kit is designed to adapt that opening to fit a 2" x 7" radio. Your opening isn't large enough for a double DIN kit because it would need more height than 4" to fit.

Hunter: The bottom is "pushed down" already because that is the way the Soundstream is designed.

Hunter: Are you following me?

Hunter: It's been a little while since I heard from you, are you still with me?

Bryan: yea thanks i dont think i have enough room below at all because the ac control is right below the radio

Hunter: Keep in mind that the height of the screen is only 5-9/16" and your cavity opening is over 8". The dash kit will move the radio down a bit, but it looks like it will fit OK.

Hunter: It might not cover your A/C controls...

Bryan: ok let me do some more research and I'll get back to you. my boss is looking at me funny, haha!

Hunter: Yeah, don't get fired! LOL.

I saw this the other day and was seriously considering it, but then I noticed that it doesn't support Pandora. For me that's a show stopper, but for anyone else looking at it, take a look at the mounts from humount.com
He can do a mount with the single DIN opening at the top so it should make it fit a lot easier.
