Default Long tube header question

My understanding is that the only real difference between the 97-00 and 01-04 long tube headers is the air tube placement, is that correct? If so, I also believe that if one were to install the earlier long tubes into an 02 Z06, this could be accomplished by either removing some emissions equipment OR swapping out the air tube for a 97-00 one. If for no reason other than future resale, I'd rather not remove anything so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me any downfalls in swapping the tubes? I'd like to get LTs and I'm a bit of a penny pincher, so I'd prefer used and it'd be nice to keep my options available for the earlier ones too but not if it presents more problems than I realize. I plan to have a shop install these, so really, I guess I'm mainly wondering how involved the swap is and what parts would be needed so I can figure out if the savings of buying used are nearly offset by the added hassle of making them work.

Thanks!
