Help i was crusing along on the highway when i looked at my psi gage and the needle was maxed out at the 80 mark no warning came on the DIC then when i put the psi on the dic it was at 123! what could be causing this? 7500 miles since my last oil change could it be a cloged oil filter? the oil level is normal anyone exp this? what was it and how much is this one going to cost? Thanks!
This is a common problem. Your oil pressure sensor probably went bad. The other possibility is a wiring problem (slim).
Search for how to fix this. It is not easy to get to, being at the back top of engine. The shop manual has you remove the intake manifold to replace the sensor. There is a way to cut a hole in the cowl also. Some people put in a remote sensor harness, which allows you to easily replace the next time.
Be aware, replacement sensors often fail. Be sure to use correct torque and clean all the oil off of electrical connectors.
I've heard replacement at dealers can be $250-400.
I had this happen to my '99 6M, LS1. I checked the oil level, etc., all was OK, just a bad sending unit. There are numerous threads on the forum to change it yourself without removing the intake manifold. Me? I'm helpless, short fat fingers, Bachelor of Arts, etc., so, I had GM do it. Cost me about $420.00 to get it replaced.
Actually, OK to drive the car, you just don't have any data concerning oil pressure in case something really bad goes wrong.
I had the exact same problem. when you turn ignition to on and the needle is pegged im sure it is your pressure sensor. I actually just changed mine two days ago and now it is back in normal range.
Thanks all! i called the dealership as auto zone and advanced don't carry the senser the price i was given was $32.54 for the senser and $210 to install they will have to order the part....
I just finished piecing together my own relocation kit for this through various online vendors/retailers and man that was a bit of a nightmare.
Hope to have it installed this weekend along with pics. It's really unfortunate that I nor anyone here has been able to contact TPE for their rather nice 2 in 1 relocation kit. Total cost for mine is going to be about 140 ish, just 40 dollars shy of TPEs kit. Oh well, I'll come back to this on Sunday.

Yes, the oil pressure sending unit is a common failure in the C5. I have a number of Word files that talk about the repair and also a few that show a relocation procedure so if it goes bad again, it will be easier to change. If you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.
