I'm new to the Corvette group, I have a 2001 Z06, it has the stock intake on it, but the air box was taken off and had a BlackWing filter put on, it needs to be cleaned/replaced, but I'd rater just buy a new CAI kit, so what is the BEST intake on the market for the price, preferably cheaper than $500. any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

THIS COMPARISON DYNO WAS JUST INSTALLING THE HALLTECH C5 KILLER BEE II CONVERSION, RETUNING, VS THE BLACKWING.

The Halltech Killer Bee II Conversion Pak gets rid of the old Delphi MAF sensor and replaces it with the probe style LS7 MAF. Comes with the Pigtail wire conversion harness. We have been selling this conversion package to many dealers that are modding the C5s with bigger LS motors and huge cam and head packages. This intake is way too much for the stock LS1 or LS6. The Halltech Venom II handles that.
Get the Blackwing, and modify your radiator shroud for cold air and to maximize the performance of the intake. You can pick up one used or even brand new, its going to be a LOT LESS than $500. No quality issues, ease of installation and Ligenfelter uses the Blackwing in theyre R&D of theyre engine packages. You can modify the radiator shroud with a sawzall. Very easy DIY project over the wintertime, and you could pick up a used shroud in case you decide to go back to stock.ITS also very easy to remove and clean/oil. Very happy with the performance results also. And youre still WAY under $500!! Ask me how do I know.

Went through this myself and decided to go with the Vararam. Mainly because I found it for a decent price used on these forums, but it was well worth it. Installation was not that difficult as I have heard others state. I read somewhere that the Vararam will give you the best gain while driving, and considering I need it while driving, not idling I pulled the trigger.

Yep, Halltech just made full circle. In 1997, we posted our very first post on Steve Merenkov's C6Corvette forum. Right after our very first post, the first reply was "here we go again" 14 years later.....
What do guess think about the halltech killer bee II? I don't care for the vararam, it looks too stock to me with the hood up. So is halltech good?
You ordered the Venom II, which is the way to go without tuning and other mods.
GM High Tech and Perf. Magazine tested it at East Coast SC a few years ago. Don't take my word for it:
This was our older Venom intake. (You ordered the Venom II which uses the same huge filter used on the Killer Bee II and Super Bee MF103) http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...t_on_upgrades/

Whats involved in the installation. I want to buy the killer bee 2 but heard that the engine wont even start if parameters arent changed with hp tuner...??
You would need to buy the new ls3 card style maf and update your maf transfer table to something reasonable which those numbers are provided online by few vendors to just get it to going then for optimal running have it tuned by a pro\neighbor using a wideband and dyno/street tuning. Hp tuners or another tuning programs would be needed just to enter a maf transfer curve to get it going. One option you could do is take your car to your tuner and have them put it into SD mode until then come back with the new hardware installed, or if the tuner will let you install the hardware at the dnyo shop or have the shop install the hardware. Just some ideas.
Performance wise I don't think anything out there beats the VR-B2 when moving at speed. On a dyno I would think some others may outperform it but who races on a dyno, lol.
Don't do the Vararam unless you never expect to get caught in the rain. It will be the most likely to suck up water into your intake and vapor lock your engine. There are also dyno studies out there that the Vararam doesn't add any horsepower until around 70mph because the ram air affect doesn't kick in until then. I have the SLP Blackwing and love it. I bought it as a kit with the smooth bellows for the smoothest air flow into the throttle body. Just my .02 worth.
