So I was debating how to protect my newly installed rear flares from stone chips and I remembered the how the older Porsche 911's had 'stone guards' on the front side of the flare. I decided to try this look and here's what I came up with. The top part is the exact 911 shape. I rounded the bottom to flow better with the door and overall C5 shape. I ended up curving the bottom part similar to the way the Z06 brake ducts are shaped. I think I like it and it's only 3M vinyl if I ever get tired of the look...

Car overall looks great, and while the black vinyl will probably do a good job protecting the paint, I also think some of the clear 3M vinyl would just look better. But either way, protection of the painted surface is what counts.
Neil,
I've been thinking about something similar. I don't know, I am kinda digging it and kinda not; on the fence.
Not much love here for the vintage Porsche styling cue. Oh well, I like it, it's functional and would take 5 mins to remove. Maybe I'll put a big a$$ whale tail on it to complete the look.

Now that would really get some responses
I may spray on a similar fender guard with plasti-dip just to see how it would look with my splash guards.

It spray's on, so you need to mask about a 1/4 inch from the edge, and you just let it flash over, about 25 seconds and then put on a second coat, pull off the masking Now. It'll leave a jagged white line if you let it flash too long.
Great stuff otherwise. Another great 3M product, goes on clear as water and once it cures it puts up a good ply-able soft surface the stones and debris bounce right off.
