oil consumption
My 2001 just started using oil at the rate of a quart every 500 miles, There are no oil spots on garage floor, no smoke, engine clean with no signs of a leak. Car runs fine with no noticable change if performance. Any suggestions on what can be going on. Has 69,000 miles, auto.

I had a '00 that used oil at the rate of about one quart every 1200 miles. GM replaced the #2 rings under warranty for excessive oil consumption - that solved the problem. Mine was not showing any leakage, no smoke from the tailpipe, etc either. Might want to have it checked by a good mechanic and see if they can give you some options to fix it. Yours may or may not be that issue - mine happened when the car only had 11K miles on it though.
