does the lmk5 stop the steering wheel lock problem permanantly and is it easy to install ? The reason Iam asking is around 3 mos ago I took my car to the dealer to fix this problem and they did for about a week and it happend againand this time they removed the locking plate from the colume as per GM techs put another wire harness on and said car was ready Ipick it up and up until 2.5 weeks ago not a problem and now the pull key mess. and service colume lock appears on dic I would like to know is how to fix it permanantly before I end up selling it and buying a c6 I like my car alot but this ongoing problem is a real P.I.T.A
I purchased and installed this unit on mine. I like it because of the ease of install. There is an unlocker available as well, just in case. I keep that in the back..
If you installed an LMC5 and did the install CORRECTLY, the wires that provide power to the lock motor were DISCONNECTED at the BCM, the device that operates the lock motor. Therefore the lock motor is incapable of operating any longer.
If you're right, and I hope you are, I don't mind the fact that I wasted the six bucks on something that I'll never use.
sorry Iwas too pissed when I wrote this last night yes I ment lmc5 how ever the locking or unlocking isnt the problem its the pull key wait 10 seconds and service colume lock mess and the car shuts off at 2 mph as stated before the wheel will never lock again the tech at the dealer removed it as per gm but now that is appearing again thank god it happend in my driveway and not on the street
Don't believe me. Give the vendor a call and ask them if the column can ever lock again once the LMC5 is installed. They sell the unlocker for those situations where the column is locked and you need to get it unlocked, a requirement to install either a CLB or an LMC5. Once the device is installed there is no longer an electrical connection to the lock motor that would have the 12V needed to operate the lock motor.
If you stop to think about it, if the column could lock again after installing this device, would it be any better than the GM solution?
What you say makes sense and I appreciate the feedback.
