Default Shocks

Hi,
New member here, just bought a 2000 C5, it is a great ride, love it.
Had Michelin Pilots put on and had it aligned, but it still wanders just a little bit. I am thinking shocks, car has 59,000 miles on it, believe the shocks are original. What would you guys recommend for touring shocks?
Thanks.
Jeff

Default Shock absorbers-

There's a search feature that lets you find more answers quickly- here's some pretty good reading:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ew-shocks.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...hocks-wow.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ks-needed.html

I just bought a set of Bilsteins for my `02 - - Good luck-
Jeff- fixed the search - -sorry.

The C6 Z06 shocks are a popular choice, as is something like the Bilstein shocks.

Default Mag shocks

Jeff,

Make sure you do not have the F45 shock option, the "Real Time Damping System." These feature a set of electrical connections that tie them into the computer control. If you replace the F45 shocks with "normal" shocks and leave the electrical connections hanging, the car will go into a safety mode and you will be automatically limited to 80 mph.

Several after-market companies, such as Eckler's, sell a set of electronic plug-in devices that emulated the F45 codes and negate the effect of the safety mode. They run about $200.00.

I have the F45 option on my '99. When they go bad I'm replacing them with a good set of rebuild-able coil-overs, plus the electronic computer foolers. This will still be a HUGE savings over a new set of the F45's.

I hope you don't have the F45 option; too expensive and not worth the initial outlay, IMHO.

Regards,

Gunny John

Yes you do. I have it on my 98 also with about 86,000 miles and it still works. I will look at Koni FSD shocks when my F45 wear out. Your shocks are probably still good. JMHO.

No wheel hop, smoother ride, better handeling, what more can you ask for
