well my toy is back at the dealer visit #4 for the same BS the cl issue that they cant seem to fix , fortunatly the first 3 times was in my drive way but today it was on the street I dont blame the machanic he is just doing what GM is telling him to do but 4 times is way too much for the same thing .They removed the locking plate ( which they said thier not supposed to do on a standard shift car) and changed the relay 3 times ,first time it lasted one week changing just the relay, second time change relay and remove locking plate it lasted 2.5 months ,third was day before thanksgiving changed relay lasted til today why cant the brilliant minds at GM figure out the problem and fix it I enjoy my car but this problem is making it very hard to do so. Is there anything as the owner of this technilogical nightmare I can do ? :will y:
It is time to get the Steering Wheel Bypass Lock fix kit!
Stop wasting your time and energy doing it any other way - the GM fix just is junk and will keep happening and ESPECIALLY if your battery goes dead or really low - the relays fry!
Your first mistake was going to a GM dealer for a column lock fix. They can't fix it! It will not work no matter what they do. You need to buy a simple CLB. You can buy one from any Forum vendor or even eBay. You need to remove all of the doodads that GM installed trying to fix this issue and install the CLB. Your problem will be solved.

Go to search, enter CLB or LMC5, this must be one of the most blogged items regarding C5 Vettes
will this work even if the wheel wont lock ever again ?
YES!
Only thing you will remove from the dealer is the K-Harness they put in that keeps burning out! You will leave in the plate GM put behind the steering wheel that replaced the plate that had holes in it for the lock pin.
Believe it or not.....GM never figured out how to solve this issue.
But the B-team decided to do away with the key and started using the 30-40's solution and installed a Start "Button". If they still have issues the next retro fix will be a start handcrank mounted on the front bumper.
There are plenty of fresh work around solutions in the History section of the GM Library.
wasting your time with the dealership install a CLB and be done with it. There is more information on this forum them anyone whats to read bout this issue. The long and short is get the CLB from a forum vendor and forget about it.
You don't have to tear away the knee bolster and perform acrobatics to get to wiring you need.
You only need to access the fuse panel under the passanger floormat.
Quote from the manufacters website:
The LMC5 installation makes NO permanent modifications to your Corvette, and does not require ANY significant, complex, or time-consuming disassembly of interior panels or parts. You also don't have to do ANY diagnostics, relay testing, dash disassembly, k harness checking, wiring or circuit tracing. None! Using only two wrenches and a provided tool, the LMC5 installs in minutes, in the passenger side foot well, with absolutely no major disassembly of interior panels or parts! That means no dash panels to realign, no screws to lose, and no body parts to get mangled - whether yours or your Vette's!
